Images Connecting Us

I surround myself with images of places, people and those things I create. They are on our walls inside and within our carport outside and hidden within our garden, mostly they live as emotion filled memories.

I love to photograph nature with its beauty and diversity, ancient and modern buildings, people living their lives and I have mosaics, mobiles, drawings I have created. The quality of my creations challenging my idea of perfection, they are not, but I persevere with mostly joy, sometimes embarrassment. I use the word joy as Holly Ringland does in her book The House That Joy Built.

Images to fall asleep by

In those moments before sleep comes I take myself to a place far from home. I imagine one of the views I love of the Ligurian Sea in Italy: Porto Venere. I am sitting on the balcony with the blue of the sky and sea and this ancient building. I am soothed by the simplicity and colours.

Images to inspire

This image creates hope, inspiration, a sense I can do anything. I enlarged this image onto canvas and placed it in our car port. I can view it as I sit on my black leather couch and write. When I open my cupboard holding my journals, art supplies and more. It is on the inside of the door with the caption: The World is Waiting.

Images of my creations

I adore the art and architecture of Antoni Gaudi: Barcelona, Spain. His mosaics were my inspiration to create a half table using one of my photographs of the Dolomites Italy. The following extract is from my memoir Grateful, Learning to live with an autoimmune disorder, A mosaic of my journal.

Stan, my husband, is showing our granddaughter Jasmine my Dolomites mosaic, as he realises when it is placed on the half circle table it will be upside down. I love the way Stan just says it, not worrying about how I respond, he doesn’t try to soften the news. I’m upset, not really, knowing it is more about doing and we will work something out. My daughter-in-law Jacqui suggests, ‘Place a mirror behind the table and call it Reflections of the Dolomites Italy an Abstract Mosaic.’ All is good with a moment of joy and a problem quickly solved. I visualise a mirror with a white frame attached to the half round table, at exactly the right height and angle to show the reflections of this Dolomites mosaic.
