‘This is My Passion Project’ – Stories Connecting Us, Naming my Vision for a Website

Cathy Beesey, Founder

Stories Connecting Us website is a creative space for writers to publish their writing and readers who want to read something with a difference. From poetry to a novel and everything in-between: memoir, injustice, murder mystery, travel, love story, book review, play, lyrics, fiction, factual accounts, photographs, art practice and the
list could go on.

Your writing will be yours, published as you want, when you want, owning it fully. This is my dream, one held in my heart for the past four years. It began when I joined a writing group at U3A Port Phillip – University of the Third Age. Each of us would read a piece of our writing out loud, watching and listening as those in the group responded with care, intelligence, ways to improve and left judgement at the door. I learnt and grew in my writing. I am now honored to facilitate a writing group at U3A Merri-bek.

I am privileged and inspired as I listen to the stories of others. Stories of lives lived, childhood memories, poetry, memoir, fiction, inspiration from a photograph; the
content and style of writing never ending and always surprising. Not knowing what is to come is part of the joy and excitement of each of these sessions.

During these writing sessions I often hear, “What you have written is powerful. More people, not just those here today should be able to experience this. Hear it, read it.” The comment slightly different each time, with the words: captivating, engaging, challenging, validating, inspiring; intertwined within the comments.

I ‘pitch’ my vision to Olivia De Lesantis, a published author, a creative. She loves it. I know she is perfect as Creative Director when she says, “Giving everyone an opportunity to publish writing is wonderful, such an opportunity. And how much we can learn by reading the stories of others.” (Meet Olivia here.)

I invite you to share your writing, to find an audience whether you are a published author or not. And for those wanting to read something with a difference you will find captivating stories that engage, entertain, challenge, validate as they connect us spiritually, emotionally, psychologically and physically, taking us within and beyond ourselves.

Join us in this shared creative space: for those that love to write and want to publish and a space for readers who want to read something with a difference. Everyone, all ages and stages are welcome, a space to share your writing and find an audience.

This, my passion project, has no ads, subscriptions, etc. That isn’t the kind of space I am wanting to create, although donations are appreciated to help this creative space grow. My commitment is this, I will never distract from your writing.

The flicker of this dream was first published in the U3A – University of the Third Age – Merri-bek Newsletter: ‘When One Door Closes’, telling the story of my career with hints as to what was to come. I have the excitement and challenge of writing a column for each edition. Click here for the U3A Merri-bek Website Newsletters.
