Our Story
Stories Connecting Us was founded by Cathy Beesey in 2024, though the idea had been brewing for many years beforehand. Writer, volunteer, a career in education, once upon a time travel blogger. Most notably, she now facilitates a writing group at University of the Third Age – U3A Moreland in Melbourne. There, she is responsible for facilitating discussion to develop the writing of those in the group, and assisting to achieve visions. Cathy has also been writing her memoir, which she has been workshopping with her writing group. She always seeks to create a warm and welcoming space for writers. This is how the idea for Stories Connecting Us began to bloom. Now, Cathy just needed someone to help bring her idea to life.

Cathy reached out to Olivia De Lesantis, a writer with a background in marketing and design, and shared her idea. Olivia was on board immediately. It was an opportunity to develop a dedicated space for accessible publishing of all kinds of stories; something Olivia is extremely passionate about. Olivia is currently undertaking a Bachelor’s Degree in Creative Writing at RMIT, and has been storytelling since she could hold a pen. She is interested by strong female detectives, historical retellings, experimental feminist poetry and cinematic essay-work.
Your Stories
Together, Cathy and Olivia collaborated on creating this space. Cathy provided her ideas and words, and Olivia brought them into the digital realm. The aim is to create somewhere special for writers and readers to convene and share their stories. It is our hope that you will share with us your experiences, your imaginings, your hopes, your dreams, your fears, your vices, your values.
